In the second quarter of 2026, the small OLED market recorded shipment volume and revenue levels similar to the previous quarter, but both shipments and revenue declined compared with the same period last year.

According to UBI Research’s “3Q26 Quarterly Small OLED Display Market Tracker,” small OLED shipments in the second quarter reached 230 million units, while revenue totaled US$8.9 billion. Although the overall market remained stagnant, performance varied significantly by panel maker depending on product mix and customer composition.

The seasonal slowdown in the smartphone market and weaker demand for mid-range and low-end products weighed on the market. Rising memory prices also increased finished-device manufacturing costs, leading Chinese smartphone makers in particular to take a more conservative approach to panel purchasing and production planning.

Despite these conditions, Samsung Display shipped approximately 90 million small OLED panels in the second quarter, improving its performance from the previous quarter. Its shipment share approached 40%, while its revenue share rose to around half of the total market.

Samsung Display’s performance improvement was driven not by OLED panels for conventional smartphones, but by OLED panels for foldable smartphones. As panel production for new Galaxy Z series models expanded, shipments of foldable smartphone OLED panels increased more than threefold compared with the previous quarter.

LG Display, by contrast, saw its OLED shipments decline due to the seasonal slowdown in Apple’s iPhone business. However, a seasonal recovery is expected in the third quarter as production begins for new iPhone models.

BOE and TCL CSOT also recorded lower shipments due to volume adjustments by Chinese smartphone makers. Visionox significantly expanded its shipment volume, but because low-end products accounted for a large portion of its shipments, revenue growth did not keep pace with shipment growth.

The second-quarter results show that, in the small OLED market, panel makers’ performance is being determined more by product mix and average selling price than by shipment volume alone. Going forward, performance gaps among panel makers are expected to become more pronounced depending on their exposure to premium smartphones and foldable new model supply.
