According to the OLED emitting material market track in the third quarter of 2020 published by UBI Research, the emitting material market in the second quarter of 2020 was estimated at $ 230 million. This is a decrease of 30% from the previous quarter and 24% from the second quarter of 2019.

The decline in the emitting material market in 2Q is mainly attributed to the decrease in panel shipments and inventory volume of Samsung Display.

First of all, among Samsung Display's second quarter panel performance, China increased 27% QoQ, but panel production decreased due to sluggish sales of Samsung Electronics' Galaxy S20 series, and the number of panels for Galaxy Note20, which began mass production in June, was less than 200,000 units. As it reached the level, the amount of light-emitting material used decreased by that amount.

In addition, in the first quarter, stocks increased due to pre-orders from Chinese panel makers, which were concerned about the supply and demand of materials due to the coronavirus, but the fact that the utilization rate did not increase enough to consume the stocks contributed to the market contraction.

However, in the second half of the year, the light emitting material market is expected to expand due to the increase in the number of panels to Apple for Samsung Display and LG Display and the operation of LG Display's Guangzhou line.

Samsung Display and LG Display are expected to supply 80 million and 20 million panels to Apple in 2020, respectively, and LG Display's Guangzhou line, which began operation in July, is also expected to contribute to the increase in the use of emitting materials.

The emitting material market in 2020 is expected to increase by 10% compared to 2019 with a scale of 1.41 billion dollars. Samsung Display's luminous material purchases are expected to account for more than 50% of the total, followed by LG Display at 20% and BOE at the mid-10% level..
